Ashoka, known as the Ashoka briksh is one of the most ancient and sacred trees found all over India. The Latin name of Ashoka is Saracaasoca and it belongs to the family Leguminosae. Ashoka - means reliever of grief. The Ashoka tree is a medium sized evergreen that is still found growing wild in the Himalayas and across the Indian sub-continent. Ashoka has various medicinal properties, especially its bark and leaves. It is classed as one of the divine herbs – divya aushadhis – in Ayurveda, and is revered for its spiritual properties as well as its many benefits to the physical health of the body.
